Toulouse
Context
Water Horizon is a Toulouse-based deeptech start-up founded in 2017. With its proprietary thermochemical technologies, Water Horizon aims to become a major player in the decarbonization of the industry. WH supports manufacturers in their energy transition on several verticals: the recovery of waste heat, the storage and transport of heat as well as the production of renewable cooling.
With its mature technologies, WH transforms the landscape into an energy positive territory.

DESCRIPTION
With its economic and industrial dynamism, the Toulouse region is ideal for
creating ties between waste heat producers and consumers.
The Waste-to-Energy Unit of the SETMI (Saint-Simon district of Toulouse) is a
treatment center for household and others wastes.
The facility processes approximately 240,000 tons of waste annually, producing electricity and heat.
A significant amount of this heat is recovered through several urban heating networks, allowing part of the Toulouse population to be heated with carbon-free and inexpensive heat. However, the very differentiated consumption profiles between production and consumption limits the recovery, so part of the heat is lost and released into the air. The Alex Jany Pool-Ice Rink Complex, located 15 km from the incinerator, is a very busy sports center that opened its doors in 2011. The proximity of the swimming pool and the ice rink brings a double need for heating and cooling all year round, allowing for great energy efficiency.
With its “Move Heat to Cold” (MH2C) mobile thermal battery technology, Water Horizon will distribute renewable heat and cold from the waste heat of the UVE.
The MH2C battery is charged from the heat of the UVE, once the battery is full, it is transported to the Alex Jany complex to distribute heat and cold simultaneously. To offer continuity of service to the sports center, this project will include 2 batteries.
IMPACT
UVE de SETMI:
→ Better image
→ Reduced environmental impact
→ Upgrade and continuous innovation to meet changing regulations
Alex Jany Sport Complex:
→ Lower operating and maintenance costs (boilers and chillers)
→ Reduction of GHG emissions
→ Precise temperature management, with no fluctuation (risk of ice thaw)

TECHNOLOGY
Over the past 7 years, WATER HORIZON has developed a unique skill and technical know-how in the recovery of waste heat and the production of renewable cooling.
In Europe, industrial waste heat represents the equivalent of 100 nuclear reactors.
It is on the basis of this significant observation that Water Horizon has developed its Move Heat To Cold (MH2C) technology: recovering waste heat, storing it, transporting it and distributing it to a distant consumer in the form of renewable cooling.
The MH2C battery recovers and values waste heat between 100°C and 200°C to redistribute it in heat but mainly in cold down to -10°C
Water Horizon takes care of everything! Whether you are a producer of waste heat or a consumer, we take care of finding your peer, sizing the project, financing it and operating it.
